The Niut Range stands as a first step into the Coast Range mountains.
Located in west central B.C. in the Chilcotin region, bordered
on the west by Mosley Creek, and on the east by Tatlayoko Lake
and the Homathko River, this range overlooks the Chilcotin Plateau.
To the south west, and dominant, is Mt. Waddington and the Coast
Range. This wilderness area offers a broad range of special features
including, numerous alpine lakes, snow fields, glaciers, water
falls, rugged cliffs, and has been described as a world class
wilderness.
Since early survey parties in the 1930's, horseback travel has
been the traditonal method of transport to access this area by
ranchers, guides, trappers and recreationalists. Today, both hiking
and horseback travel are popular. The opportunity is here for
you to visit these alpine lakes, snow fields and glaciers. Open
alpine areas present easy travelling, whether on horseback or
on foot. Alpine flowers, wildlife, including marmots, mule deer,
mountain goats, and moose are often seen.
